Why do Koreans say Yeoboseyo?
The first thing most Koreans say when answering the phone is Yeoboseyo which is the way one would greet the other person on the phone. Yeoboseyo has the same meaning as “Hello” in English, Hola in Spanish, Mosi mosi in Japanese, and Wei in Chinese, etc.
- Standard: 여보세요? / yeoboseyo? (hello?)
- Polite simple, or standoffish (like when you see the call is from a telemarketer): 네? / ne? (yes?)
여보세요 • (yeoboseyo) hello (when asking or answering the telephone)
(Jeon gwaenchanayo.) "As for me, I'm okay.” So for example, if your friend know there was something bad happened to your family, and asks you 어떻게 지내?(Eotteoke jinae?) ”How are you?” Then if you say 난 괜찮아(Nan gaenchana), or 전 괜찮아요(Jeon gwaenchanayo), it means “I'm okay, but i'm not sure about other (family members).
하이(ha-i) is literally 'hi' in Korean. You may have noticed that the pronunciation of 하이 (ha-i) sounds like the English word 'hi' but said with a Korean accent. Korean's will often take English words and use them as if they are Korean words. Using 하이(ha-i) like this is super casual and very cute.
"Anyo" or "ani" is a polite way to address an older brother or sister in Korean. It is similar to "big brother" or "big.

Koreans often use this sign '∼∼∼∼∼ (물결표)' when sending a text message to show a friendly vibe, to be more excited, or to be more kind. I think “~~~물결표” definitely makes the sentence more friendly when you use it. It's fun and useful when texting with your friends. Let's try this!

뽀뽀 [ppoppo] a kiss, peck, smooch (n.) a pure Korean word usually used to refer to a “light kiss” or a more casual kiss, such as a kid kissing his/her parents. In contrast, the English-loan word 키스 [kiseu] is usually used to refer to a “deep kiss” and is more intimate. 뽀뽀하다 [ppoppohada] to kiss, to peck (v.)
What is flirting in Korea?
Flirting in Korean culture is pretty much like what you see in Korean dramas. They use romantic, sweet, and cute phrases to touch the heart of the person they like. Aside from romantic phrases, they also flirt by acting cute, called aegyo (애교).
입니다 (Imnida) is the word meaning “to be” so unlike English, you have to put your name in the middle of the sentence. So for example, my name is Jaehwi, so I can say - 제 이름은 Jae 입니다. (Je ireumeun Jaehwi imnida.) "My name is Jaehwi."

괜찮습니다 (gwaenchanseumnida)
This is the formal way of saying OK. It could be used in meetings, announcements, or interviews. To ask “Are you OK?” in formal Korean, you can say 괜찮습니까? (gwaenchanseumnikka?).
Araso – 아랐어
In conversation, respond with araso to let someone know you understand what they're saying. If you don't understand and need clarification, you can say arasoyo (아랐어요).
좋아합니다 (joahamnida) is the most common way to say “I like you” in Korean. This uses the verb “to like” on its own. This formal Korean expression can also be used to say, “I like it.”
Definition of 'aegyo'
1. denoting a Korean cultural style that emphasizes the quality of cuteness. noun. 2. (in Korean popular culture) the quality of being lovable or cute.
The actual meaning of the phrase has two parts. The first part is 안녕 (annyeong), which means “well-being” or “peace.” The second part is 하세요 (haseyo), which comes from the verb 하다 (had), meaning “to do.” Put them together, and you have “to do well-being.”
The Korean consonant ㅋ meaning “k” which has the same sound as the laughing “ha.” When used online, both “hhh” (ㅎㅎㅎ) and “kkk” (ㅋㅋㅋ) represent laughter.
Omo-Omo (meaning “OMG” in Korean) is the new Korean cloud kitchen that just landed in Riyadh.
PDA. Koreans tend to be more conservative when it comes to displaying affection in public. While holding hands is generally accepted, kissing or other intimate gestures are usually reserved for more private settings. Don't always go by what you see in the shows.
Is kissing normal in South Korea?
Kissing in public is looked down upon and seen as highly immodest among older individuals in South Korea. This has become less taboo with the current generation of young adults, but is still widely discouraged by elders. Dressing well is important in South Korea; it is considered a sign of respect.
Jagiya (자기야) – “Honey” or “Baby”
Perhaps the most popular of the Korean terms of love between couples it means “honey,” “darling,” or “baby,” which you'll often hear among couples in K-dramas. You can also just shorten it to 자기 (jagi). Use this term along with Korean love phrases. It's used for both men and women.
In informal writing, a tilde (or multiple tildes) may be used at the end of a sentence to indicate a speaker is intending to be playful or flirty. You are most likely to encounter this usage on social media or in fanfiction writing.
One generation before phones, pagers were in korea that only used numbers. 486 just became a code number to type I love you, 빨리빨리 was 8282, which is 'do/go fast' because it sounds like 팔 8 and 이 2.
It's supposed to be ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ (korean keyboard equivalent of lololol) which is mapped to the z key on english keyboards. Korean players say zz instead of lol. Some non-Koreans have adopted this, and some say zzz to indicate boredom because they don't understand what zzz actually is.
