Which Bank Owns Capital One?

Capital One is not associated with any bank besides its own. Although the company grew to prominence through its credit card offerings, it now has traditional checking and savings accounts as well. These are entirely owned and operated by Capital One.

Which Bank Owns Citibank?

Citibank is owned by Citigroup, an investment bank and financial services provider based in New York City. Citigroup was created when Citicorp merged with Travelers Group Inc. in 1998.

Citibank is one of the oldest still-active financial institutions in the United States. The company has roots dating back to the early 1800s, when Congress refused to renew the charter of the First Bank of the United States, and private investors incorporated a new financial institution under the name City Bank of New York.

One of the main differences between these two financial institutions is their physical branch networks.

Capital One has branches, cafes and a large network of 70,000-plus ATM locations. However, its branches and cafes are few and far between as compared to other major banks. There are many cities without any Capital One branches or cafes within reasonable driving distance.

Citi has more branches than Capital One, making it easier for customers to get in-person banking support when needed. It also has a network of 65,000-plus fee-free ATM locations across the country.

Should I Use Capital One or Citi?

Are Citi and Capital One the same? No. But the services they offer overlap quite a bit. You can use either institution to bank, save, open credit accounts and take out loans.

If you’re trying to decide between the two banks, your location could lead to an answer. Citi has more physical branches than Capital One, so it may be the better option if you want to be able to go into a branch to get banking assistance when you need it.
